Ever since I was old enough to babysit, I have helped raise some amazing kids with my whimiscal and empathetic view of childhood. In college, I hosted the only alternative children's radio show the training station has ever known, among also being a Health Educator during the week, and Sunday School teacher on weekends.

This blog, and the corresponding web site to launch 2005, HipYoungParent.com, is my attempt to filter this experience and passion into helpful and entertaining nuggets to assist today's cool parents (in all facets and definitions) in finding alternatives for the old stand-bys. While there may be some merit in Barney and the Disney Princesses, the world of children's literature, media, toys, clothing and decorating has much more to offer than the mass market.

In the months to follow I plan to focus on music, film and book review, unconventional decorating ideas, and new clothing for HYP babies, kids and parents.
